A squirrel with diarrhea is one that is either overfed, fed too frequent, has parasites or is fed on the wrong formula.
If you notice your baby squirrel poop is watery then you should stop feeding formula for a couple of feedings and hydrate instead.
It may be helpful to switch to the Homemade Goat Milk Formula. Diarrhea is deadly in humans, and even more deadly in squirrels, so get help right away.
Note: It is normal for their poop to change once they begin formula. However, normal formula poop is orange/yellow and is made up of large, soft nuggets.

How To Treat Diarrhea In Squirrels
Most consistent diarrhea I have heard from is usually from canned Esbilac. I strongly advise you return it and try to get a better formula, like the ones in the pictures I have attached.
You should ensure the third ingredient is dried whey protein concentrate. Even if your squirrel begins nibbling block, you don’t want to wean her from formula, you want her to continue to take it for as long as possible.
She will eventually self-wean.
As for hydration, its counterproductive to provide hydration fluid with nutrition (formula). The hydration will take away the nutrients being absorbed and the formula takes away the hydration being absorbed.
The Esbilac powder needs to be mixed with water and if hydration is required, you can do that with water and sugar in between feeding.
You can try temporary Goat Milk Formula. She should be okay with that versus canned Esbilac and help begin to treat diarrhea.
This is the formula:
- 3 parts goat’s milk
- 1 part vanilla yogurt
- 1 part heavy whipping cream (if severe, leave this out)
