  • Hayward Pool Products

Hayward is less popular than Pentair, but their products are great (from experience). Their pool filters are both trustworthy, reliable and user-friendly.

They are well designed and clean well too. If you need to make a decision on which is a better choice, then no doubt, Hayward is the better choice.

However, I have come to love Pentair products more because they are more user-friendly and have cooler designs.

If you come across a cheap Pentair product and a similarly cheap Hayward product, don’t think twice before picking Hayward as for a similar price it is no doubt a better choice.

Haywards pumps are built sturdily. I have seen models that come with big pump baskets and strongly-built valves by TriStar. If you’d like to know my thoughts on a great Hayward pump, I would suggest picking the Super II pump.

Hayward Aqua Rite Salt System

The Hayward Aqua Rite Salt System has proven to be a good system. Maintenance is simple, and it is reliable too. The salt cells are quite very well made and give long service years.

Hayward heaters are rodent proof. So, if you currently suffer from attacks by mice, squirrels, or rats this can be your best friend.

This is truer in areas such as Canada where they seem to find their way to almost everything and everywhere.

Without a doubt, Hayward has rose in ranks to being the top 10 producers of the best in-ground chlorine generators in the world, but before we check out what they’re capable of its important to be aware that these models come in various capacity and the one you’ll pick will be dependent on the capacity of your swimming pool.

Three Models of the Aqua Rite Chlorine Generator:

  1. Hayward AQR15 (40,000 gallons)
  2. Hayward AQR9 (25,000 gallons)
  3. Hayward AQR3 (15,000 gallons)

After years of use, the cells will need to be replaced. If you are in need of a replacement chlorinator T-cell use the links below.

Replacement Cells:

Hayward Salt Cell Reviews

To further strengthen their brand quality, Hayward had each T-cell tested by an independent company, because they wanted to learn how much additional chlorine they would produce over their lifetime.

These figures would give you an idea of how much chlorine you won’t need to drag home from the store over the years:

Hayward vs Pentair Salt Chlorinator

  • Pentair IntelliChlor Salt Cell System Generator & Pool Products

Did you know that Pentair owns STA-RITE and Rainbow Pool Products? That means they are by far the largest manufactures out there.

For starters, Pentair makes the best pool cartridge and sand filters on the market while their IntelliFlo pumps are just amazing water wonders.

The quality of their fiberglass filter tanks made me jump to this conclusion. They are super reliable, as well as their cartridges and filter elements too.

Pentair’s water pumps are on the same levels with other brands because, to be honest, there really isn’t much of a difference between the Pentair Whisperflow pumps and Hayward Super II.

Although, I have heard that the Whisperflow burns out much faster, but that is a normal occurrence in almost every pump on the market.

Pentair’s Variable and Dual Speed pumps are constantly updating their tech, and that makes them a great choice for small, medium, and commercial pool owners.

In my experience, Hayward heaters perform slightly better than Pentair’s.

Pentair IntelliChlor Salt Water Generator

There are 3 basic models I’d like to introduce to you. They all perform the same way except they’re engineered for different pool sizes and the IC20 can be used for either above-ground or inground pools.

    • Produces up to .70 pounds of chlorine every 24 hours.
    • For above ground or in-ground pools.
  • IntelliChlor IC40 | up to 40,000 gallon pool (150,000 liters) | model: 520555
    • Produces up to 1.40 pounds of chlorine every 24 hours.
    • For in-ground pools.
  • IntelliChlor IC60 | up to 60,000 gallon pool (227,124 liters) | model: 521105
    • Produces up to 2.0 pounds of chlorine every 24 hours.
    • For in-ground pools.

— You should also be aware of the IntelliChlor IC15 (Model: 520888), which is specifically designed for above-ground swimming pools under 15,000 gallons. If you have an above-ground pool, get the IC15.

Pentair Rating

Filters: 9/10

Salt Systems: 9/10

Pumps: 8/10

Variable and Dual Speed Pumps: 7/10

Heaters: 8/10

Pentair IntelliFlo Variable Speed Pump

So, who did you think won in this Pentair vs Hayward Salt Generator comparison? You can see that both of them have their stengths and weaknesses, so pick whichever suits your needs best. Just make sure it actually does the job it is mean’t to do.
