Is it a Honda…no, but very, very close. And the difference between the two is not even close to being worth 3x’s the price that a Honda would cost you.

  • Champion 76533, 3800-Watt Dual Fuel RV Ready Portable Generator with Electric Start

The Champion 76533 off-grid generator setup is an amazing option for your cabin, or system use!

I and my friend John use this in our cabin in Northern Idaho and it surprises us each time how much power it can generate.

It has proven powerful enough to run a window A/C unit, my computer, a refrigerator, the cabin lights and a WIFI modem/router.

Perfect for my needs, this is the best propane generator for off-grid living. But, wait! It uses gas too. Yeah, that’s right this dual fuel generator can use both gas or propane.

Most times, I use propane and this is because it is a reliable power source that is most times available all though the year in the area where I live.

I buy mine in bulk, to save more. My oven, and oven are also powered by propane too.

Let’s check out some other cool features:

  • It has an electric start which is nice and simple to use.
  • The generator works quietly
  • It has a noise level output (dBa) of only 68
  • At half a load, this generator will run 10.5 hours when fueled with propane. However, when run on gas, this generator will run at a bit slower pace of 9 hours at half load capacity.
  • For easier mobility, it has wheels and a handle.

The Champion 76533 is not the most easily portable, but definitely worth it for how much power this thing puts out.

The Champion 76533 generator has an Amazon ranking of 4.5 stars from roughly 320 customer reviews given. This just helps to prove that people really like and can rely on this generator so you have nothing to worry about!

  • Champion 100165, 7500-Watt Dual Fuel with Electric Start

The Champion 100165 is way better than the previous Champion 76533. How?

Here’s how:

It can run your entire housing including:

  • Heater
  • Washer
  • Dryer
  • Refrigerator all at once without budging. However, it costs more but totally worth it.

Weighing in at 203lbs, the Champion 76533 is much bigger but with a larger back up extra power you’d be thankful you paid for.

The heavy weight, means this generator is not very portable, but it comes with never-flat wheels and handlebar.

I definitely would not recommend trying to move this generator alone. Maybe have a friend or family assist you.

The Champion 100165 is also a dual fuel generator which means you can hook it up to the same huge propane tanks as you would with the Champion 76533.

It can do 5.5 hours at half load capacity when on propane. But, on gas, it will do 8 hours at half capacity.

This unit is a bit louder than the Champion 76533 generator unit but is still pretty great especially when you consider the huge output level.

The noise level (dBa) for the Champion 100165 is at a slightly higher level of 74.

This generator is Electric start as well, so that makes it stupidly-simple to start up. To turn it on, simply flip the switch and on it goes!

This makes it a more reliable generator along with a quicker and more efficient start up.

This generator has an awesome 4.5 star rating on Amazon as well out of 125 customer reviews. Just like the Champion 76533 generator, this one is known to be super reliable and the ratings, again, prove it.

I would never advise you buy this generator used – because of the multiple complications you might face.

I would highly recommend purchasing the Champion 100165 generator new. It can pack a punch and it is still a decent size. you can fuel your entire house full of it’s electrical needs with this generator. And it is totally worth it to complete your lavish, cabin hideaway.

  • Champion 46539, 3500-Watt RV Ready Portable Generator with Wireless Remote Start

This is the best gas generator for off-grid cabin and living! It features a wireless remote feature that makes turning off and on from anywhere so simple!

This remote feature can reach a full 80 feet of distance! That means that you could be 80 feet away from the generator doing who knows what, maybe hiking, making dinner, fishing, or just outside enjoying the cool breeze, and with one click of the remote you can turn off the generator without having to walk all the way over to it and then all the way back to what you were originally doing. How awesome is that?

Now, being a single fuel source generator means you cannot hook it up the same way as you would be able to the Champion 76533 generator or the Champion 100165 generator.

The gas tank on the generator will hold about 3.8 gallons of gasoline and can produce power for up to 12 hours at half capacity.

Weighing only 140 lbs., this generator is much lighter than the Champion 100165 generator was, but a bit heavier than the Champion 76533.

This generators weight means this won’t be fun to carry, as the other generators aren’t either, but it is definitely a manageable weight.

This generator is also very quiet as well, just like the other ones. The Champion 46539 generator is just as quiet as the Champion 76533 generator is. The noise level of this generator is at 68 dBa just like the 76533 generator which is very quiet for this size of generator.

This generator has a solid 4.5-star rating out of about 395 customer reviews on Amazon as well. The Champion brand overall has a very reliable selection of generators to choose from for every need and gives an amazing 3-year warranty on all their generators.

If you would like to look into buying this, here is the Amazon link to the Champion 46539, 3500-Watt RV Ready Portable Generator with Wireless Remote Start that I just told you about.

  • DuroMax XP13000HX

This generator packs a punch load of power! With nearly 13K of peak power, this unit can literally handle the entire house and do so.

Built in the US, this supportive generator is able to power your off-grid living lifestyle. It powers my friends Tesla when the grid goes down.

Its powerful 50cc engine and rock steady voltage ensures your appliances are running smoothly and well too.

I purchased a 100 gallon (420 lbs) propane tank for backup, and that powers the generator for 7 days or there about.

The only con is the 77db noise level and the need to constantly change oil every 20 hours.

Since I’m using propane, I change my oil every 100 hours with a synthetic oil. I’m presently running straight weight mineral 30 to break the engine in.

  • Champion 8.5-kW Home Standby Generator – Best Standby generator for off-grid living!

Standby generators, are not really able to do the entire house and have their limitations as with any other system out there. You still have to be selective as to what it is that you wish to run and operate.

With a 59.5 dBA noise level, this remains the quietest-in-Class generator you might ever find. It is reliable, well built, powerful, and comes with a 10-year warranty support.

Totally Automatic – The ATS50 Emergency Essentials Automatic Transfer Switch has 8 available circuits available and provides seamless power to your home during an outage.

  • Generac 6864, 5000 Running Watts/5500 Starting Watts, Diesel Powered Portable Generator – Best Diesel generator for Off-Grid!

This generator is big, heavy and holds lots of room for fuel, runs a long time and generates plenty of power.

I recommend ordering a wheel kit for it. As for performance, it is a good solid, basic generator. I love it!

I enjoy the fact that it uses the Yanmar diesel motor but the fuel cut-off solenoid needs power to hold it open. That sucks Generac!

Also, even with the battery installed, pill starting does not appear to be quite as straightforward as they make it sound. I had to pull 5 times, before it came on.

The electric start can be used in place of pull-start if you don’t want to stress. Plus, although this unit does not come with a battery, it will NOT run without one.

Finally, and I knew this going in, these are not quiet motors and the “auto-throttle” is basically wide open; so be forewarned.

  • Jackery Solar Generator – Best Solar generator for Off-grid Living

This solar generating system is more than worth it especially at the price it sells for.

It is easy to use and efficient, even for beginners. The system is beautifully designed, and delivers, just as expected!

We have taken it camping at a non-powered camp site and it covered all of our power needs including: Fans, lights, device charging, vegetable blender, , device charger charging (lol) and a 2-bar 600W heater.

Jackery Solar Generator

We accessed about 10-15% of the total charge per day and topped it up during the daytime with sunlight that to be honest, was filtered much of the time.

Guess what? This all happened during a cloudy day. I can only imagine how much power it can gobble up (absorb) and convert to performance when the sun finally shines best.

The system’s readout is the best of all the Jackerys’ and the stored 1800 Watts gives us far more confidence while camping, knowing we can now access far more camp sites that are not powered.

Aside off-grid living, the Explorer 1500 is also great for home power outages as well! Perfect!

  • Genkins 2300 Watt Portable Inverter Generator – Best Portable Inverter Generator for Off-Grid Living

Not the quietest unit on the market, but it is half the price of a Honda. Comes with everything you need except oil. Comes with a nice screwdriver and spark plug wrench. Instructions are very good as well.

For those wondering this generator will power a 13,500 btu rv ac unit on high. Just need to kick the fan on low then the ac and then kick the fan on high. Great unit, super quiet, ended up buying a second one just to really be able to run everything in the rv but so far so good.

The 2-year warranty gives you a sense of confidence.

One thing to note is nothing talked about a break in period. Make sure to run the generator with no load for an hour, change the oil, run another hour with a load and change the oil again. This is just to make sure all the gunk gets out of the engine from manufacturing and shipping.
